Horse and rider attempt to run around preset barrels in a cloverleaf pattern in the fastest time possible. It is an exciting event to watch the partnership between the horse and rider.

Another exciting 8 seconds for a contestant to attempt to stay on a bucking horse (bronc). The horse is equipped with a saddle with stirrups and a six-foot baided rein attached to a halter that the rider holds with one hand, not allowing the free hand to touch the horse.

The most dangerous 8 seconds in sports! Bullriding challenges a rider to get on a bucking bull and stay mounted while the bull tries everything to buck the rider off.

This is great fun to watch and participate. Get your kids hooked on Rodeo by starting out with Mutton Bustin’

Cowboy, Heeler, and Dallying. Described as the only true team event in ProRodeo, it requires strong cooperation and timing between two highly skilled ropers - a header and a heeler - and their horses. Team roping originated on ranches when cowboys needed to treat or brand steers and the task proved too difficult for one person.

Steer Wrestling originated from a man named Bill Pickett from the early 1900s, where a rider on a horse chases a steer, drops from the horse to the steer, then wrestles the steer to the ground by grabbing its horns and pulling it off balance so that it falls to the ground. It is a fast paced, high octane event to watch.

The rider chases the calf from horseback and then must lasso the calf around the neck. Once the calf is caught, the roper signals the horse to stop quickly while dismounting and running to the calf to quickly flip it onto its side, then the roper must tie three of the calfs’ legs together with a short rope known as a “piggin’ string”. Timing is everything in this event and can be impressive to watch.

A true rodeo classic. This is the heart of the Wild West, where cowboys rid untamed broncs with just a riggin’ and their grit. This is the most physically demanding of all the rodeo events, as it is rough and explosive and is believed to be the start of the rodeo tradition. Making a qualified run requires more than just grit. A bareback rider is judged on his spurring technique, the degree to which his toes remain turned out while he is spurring and his willingness to take whatever comes during the ride.

In Breakaway roping, one mounted rider pursues a calf. The calf is roped but not thrown to the ground and tied, instead the rider throws a bell collar catch around the calfs’ neck. Once the calf is roped, the roper’s horse slams on the brakes, cinching the rope taut. When this happens the string that ties the rope to the saddlehorn breaks away and signals the end of the run.
