In 1965 Marilyn was chosen Lake County Rodeo Queen. She had two appearances at the Cow Palace in San Francisco both times being the runner-up for Cow Palace Queen. Tami moved to Lakeport in 1959 at the age of 8 yrs, within weeks she had her first horse (an ornery 16+ H American Saddlebred) and immediately joined the CL Jr. Horsemen and 4-H light horse project. For 12 years she rode barrels on her new Palomino Quarter Horse gelding and enjoyed miles of trail riding, parades, showmanship in local events and was on the CLJH Drill Team.

After college, (she became a RN specializing in hospice care) and got back into horses, resuming barrel racing in her late 20’s.
She was LC Rodeo Queen in 1968 and years later judged the contest. And was a member and officer of the CL Senior Horsemen and Served on the Board of the Redwood Empire Qtr Horse Association.
After retirement, Tami moved to Tucson AZ. Now horseless, she spends her time at local dude ranches or leases a horse for the Winter when she’s not playing Tennis, Pickleball, Water-Skiing, or involved in Competitive Quilting! She’s the daughter of the 2024 LC Rodeo Association’s Grand Marshall, Former Sheriff - Ray Benevedes.
